Río Baker
Nacido en el lago más grande de la Patagonia, el Lago General Carrera, el imponente Río Baker es hogar de algunas de las mejores truchas del mundo. Sus fascinantes aguas turquesas no dejan a nadie indiferente, y el viaje por la Patagonia chilena hasta este paraíso remoto es la mejor manera de sumergirse en la grandeza de esta tierra indómita. En la Patagonia, todo es grande—los paisajes, los ríos y los peces.
El Baker es un torrente turquesa alimentado por glaciares, que ruge en su primer tramo, formando olas de más de tres metros y orillas salpicadas de rocas, antes de suavizarse en un tramo lleno de islas y peces. Con una corriente tan fuerte, las arcoíris y marrones del Baker son algunas de las truchas más combativas de Chile. Y Chile es un país de peces.
Un Río en Constante Transformación.
El Baker cambia constantemente a lo largo de la temporada. Desde un gigante azul celeste rebosante de agua de deshielo, hasta un laberinto multicanal de bancos de arena y grava, este río siempre es pescable y está lleno de vida.
Cuando comienza la eclosión de caddis, las arcoíris saltan en la superficie, convirtiendo el río en un torbellino de actividad. Mientras tanto, las marrones acechan las orillas, listas para emboscar insectos, peces forrajeros o cualquier criatura desprevenida. Incluso peces de tamaño modesto logran imponerse en estas corrientes poderosas.

Las aguas cristalinas del Río Cochrane no esconden nada—y ese es el desafío. Verás a las truchas gigantes, pero ellas también te verán. Este es un río técnico, que exige lanzamientos precisos y una aproximación sigilosa. Aquí, vadear es una prueba de paciencia, a medida que te acostumbras a la impresionante transparencia—o, como dicen algunos, "aprendes a pescar a ciegas."
Pescar en el Cochrane es una prueba de estrategia y técnica, pero con la orientación de un guía experto y un poco de suerte, podrías enganchar el pez de tus sueños.
Dado que ambos ríos provienen de grandes lagos patagónicos, esta zona es un paraíso para los pescadores de aguas tranquilas. Pero el hecho de que puedas ver a los gigantes surcando los bajíos, no significa que sean fáciles de atrapar—o de sacar.

Born from Patagonia’s largest lake, Lake General Carrera, the mighty Río Baker is home to some of the best trout fishing in the world. A glacial-fed turquoise torrent, the Baker roars through its first mile, creating ten-foot standing waves and boulder-strewn banks, before easing into a fish-filled stretch dotted with islands. The sheer power of the river means that Baker’s rainbows and browns are among the hardest-fighting fish in Chile. And Chile is a country of fish.
The Baker is constantly changing throughout the season. From a sky-blue giant overflowing with glacial melt, to a multi-channeled maze of gravel bars and sandbanks, the river is always fishable and full of life.
When the caddis hatch begins, rainbows explode on the surface, turning the river into a boiling frenzy. Meanwhile, stealthy brown trout prowl the shorelines, ready to ambush any insects, baitfish, or unsuspecting critters drifting too close. Even modest-sized fish gain the upper hand in these powerful currents

The gin-clear waters of Río Cochrane reveal everything beneath the surface—and that’s the challenge. You will see the monstrous trout, but they see you too. This technical river demands precise casting and a stealthy approach. Wading here is a game of patience, as you adjust to the incredible clarity—or, as some say, "learn to fish by braille."
Fishing the Cochrane is a true test of strategy and technique. But with expert guidance and just a little luck, you might hook the fish of your dreams.
Because both rivers flow from large Patagonian lakes, this area is a paradise for stillwater fly fishers. But just because you can see the giant trout cruising the shallows, doesn’t mean they will be easy to catch—or land.
